Give Mom Better Gifts
When it is time to choose a gift for mom, whether it is on Mothers Day, her birthday, Christmas, or for any other type of celebration, it can sometimes be difficult to find just the right thing. Most people like to choose a unique gift for mom, but are sometimes at a loss as to which direction to go. We want to choose a great gift for mom; one that shows our appreciation for all that she has done for us over the years. |

If you are struggling with the choice of a gift idea for mom, there are a few tips that can help you narrow down the choices of gift for special mom:
- Start a tradition – When you start a yearly tradition with your mom, this can actually be the biggest part of the gift. Giving mom the same type of gift each year, one that means something special to you both, can mean a great deal to her. Even if it is just a gift basket for mom each year, it is the reason behind the tradition that is important. Perhaps when you were a child you made her a gift basket in school, and it is something that she still talks about today. You can start the tradition of making her a gift basket every year, with different small gifts inside that reflect how her life is going each year. If she takes up gardening one year you can give her a gift basket that contains gardening tools, seeds for her favorite flowers, and perhaps a gift certificate to her favorite gardening store. When you start a gift tradition, you are showing your mom that she continues to be important to you each year, and that you treasure the special bond that you and she have together. It doesn’t even have to be a wrapped gift; it can be something like going out to dinner and then seeing a show, as long as it is a yearly tradition. It can also be on any occasion, such as a traditional Mothers Day gift for mom, or a traditional Christmas gift for mom.
- A gift of your time – Sometimes the best mom gift is a gift of your time. In today’s busy world it can sometimes be hard to see your mom as often as you’d like, so surprising her with a gift of an entire day together can mean the world to her. The fun part can be making it a surprise. Ask someone close to her to arrange it so that her whole day is clear. Show up on her doorstep with flowers and tell her that you have planned an entire day together. You can start with lunch at her favorite restaurant, then a trip to a museum or the zoo, then a movie she would like to see, and then top it off with cooking her dinner. During the day you can give her several small wrapped gifts, each with a special meaning. What mom would not be delighted with a day like this!
- Personalized gift – A “mom” personalized gift can be a great way to express how much she means to you. Visit some specialty stores that sell products that she likes, and ask how you can personalize a gift for her, such as having it engraved or monogrammed. Even if the store doesn’t do this, there are places where you can have it done. How about a set of two crystal champagne glasses engraved with a saying that has a special meaning for both of you? Perhaps you could have a quilt made for her that has pieces sewn in that have special meaning, such as parts of her children’s old baby blankets (as long as it’s okay to cut pieces out). If you have old pictures that you drew for her when you were a child, there are places where you can have the images transferred on to cloth, and these could be part of the quilt too. Putting a lot of thought into a gift and personalizing it can give her a happy memory that she can see every day.
- For the new mom – What if you are buying a new mom gift? Whether it is a gift for your wife, your daughter, or a friend, you want to make it very special to commemorate her induction into the “mom” club. What is a great gift idea for new mom? When a woman is expecting, or right after she gives birth, she usually gets quite a few gifts for the baby. What you want to do is give her a gift that is just for her; a gift that shows that you still love her as a unique person all in her own right. Perhaps a gift certificate for a day at a spa (she’ll love this when new motherhood gets a little overwhelming!), or a beautiful outfit that that will help her feel that she is still attractive and desirable. Think about the things that the new mom has always loved, and make it as unique to her as possible.
